FVTC plans Ag Development Career Day


APPLETON, Wis. — Fox Valley Technical College will hold its fifth annual Agricultural Department Career Day on Nov. 8 at the Service Motor Company Agriculture Center.

Availability is limited to the first 120 students registered per half-day session with a maximum of 20 students per school. Registration is free.

Schools can register for one or both sessions: 9:30 a.m. to noon or noon to 2 p.m.

Classes are 45 minutes long and will be repeated throughout the day. Students will choose three of the classes or attend all six if the school is registered for the entire day.

The departments involved are listed below:

Agronomy: Discover the educational and career opportunities in the growing field of agronomy. Students will be exposed to agronomy through activities including agronomy technology, crop production and soil quality.

Dairy: Learn animal care skills used in the dairy industry today. We will discuss the birthing process and various treatments used to keep Wisconsin cows happy and healthy.

Agriculture Power Equipment: Students will be exposed to the career opportunities in the service technician field of agriculture equipment. They will have the opportunity to explore different education programs that are offered at FVTC. They will also be able to see a class in session and interact with the current students and instructors.

Horticulture & Landscaping: Tour both the indoor and outdoor growing facilities at FVTC to include the greenhouse, three hoop houses, hydroponics, organic lawn care and tissue culture lab.

Outdoor Power & Power Sports: Explore the potential job opportunities in Outdoor Power Equipment/Power Sports Technology and Golf Course Turf & Equipment Specialist programs. Learn about the new technologies manufacturers have developed to meet emission standards and how these designs are used in this nationally recognized program.

Precision Agriculture: Come learn about the new Precision Agriculture programs at FVTC. There will be demonstrations of GPS based hands-free driving and automatic sprayer control done by current program students.
